Actor Sohel Towfiq Disavows Political Ad Affiliation

Date:

Actor Sohel Towfiq recently addressed his involvement in an advertisement that was later revealed to be associated with Jamaat-e-Islami, a political party. Towfiq clarified via a Facebook post that he had initially agreed to participate in the project under the impression that it was a platform for social complaints. He emphasized that the advertisement was originally presented as a tool for citizens to report issues such as injustice, corruption, extortion, and harassment.

According to Towfiq, a political message was incorporated into the advertisement without his prior knowledge or consent. He expressed his disappointment, stating that he was never informed of any political agenda during any stage of the project, and he firmly disassociated himself from any political affiliations. Towfiq emphasized that his participation was solely based on the understanding that it was a social initiative and not part of any election campaign.

In response to Towfiq’s statement, social media users urged him to pursue legal action against the individuals and production companies involved in the advertisement. Towfiq concluded his remarks by expressing a sense of being misled under the circumstances.

Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General and Central Publicity wing chief Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair responded to Towfiq’s allegations by stating that he was unaware of the situation and emphasized the need for consent in such matters. He mentioned that the issue falls under the jurisdiction of the cultural wing of the party and that he would investigate further.

Despite reaching out to Jamaat-e-Islami representatives, there has been no response to the campaign link shared by The Daily Star at the time of reporting.

Sohel Towfiq is a familiar face in television commercials and series, having also appeared in the film “Uraal” directed by Sharif Siraj.
