“Amazon CEO Jassy Foresees New Jobs Amid AI Impact”

Date:

Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, discussed the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the workforce during a recent CNBC interview. Jassy mentioned that while AI may decrease the need for human workers in some roles, it will also lead to the creation of new job categories.

During the interview on CNBC’s ‘Squawk Box,’ Jassy addressed the topic following Amazon’s announcement of a $50 billion investment in OpenAI. When asked about Jack Dorsey’s plan to cut 40% of his staff due to AI productivity gains, Jassy emphasized that AI signifies “the most transformational technology shift that we’ve seen in our lifetime.”

Jassy expressed his belief that many jobs that have traditionally been performed by humans over the past few decades may no longer require as many human workers. However, he also highlighted that new job opportunities will emerge, as has been the case with every major technological advancement.

Drawing a parallel to the rise of cloud computing, Jassy noted that roles like cloud solutions architects were non-existent 15 years ago but now there are tens of thousands, if not over 100,000 jobs in this field. He emphasized that the transition brought about by AI will result in the creation of numerous new jobs, and the workforce will adapt collectively.

These statements come at a time when concerns persist about the potential displacement of workers across various industries due to the rapid adoption of AI. Economists and technologists continue to debate whether this technological evolution will mirror past patterns of job creation or introduce fundamentally different outcomes.
