Amazon has unveiled a sneak peek of its upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular PlayStation series “God of War,” currently in production in Vancouver with a confirmed two-season commitment.
The released image features Ryan Hurst portraying Kratos and Callum Vinson as his son, Atreus. The series is anticipated to draw inspiration from the storylines of the latest “God of War” video games, where Kratos grapples with fatherhood alongside encounters with Norse mythological beings.
The show’s premise revolves around Kratos and Atreus embarking on a journey to scatter the ashes of Kratos’s wife, Faye, and Atreus’s mother. It delves into Kratos’s efforts to mentor his son in the ways of divinity while Atreus endeavors to impart human virtues to his father.
Apart from the main characters, the ensemble cast includes Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as the duo Brok and Sindri, and Ed Skrein as Baldur.
Renowned writer Ronald D Moore is spearheading the project as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner under Tall Ship Productions, with Frederick E O Toye slated to direct the initial two episodes.
The series is a collaborative effort between Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions, and Tall Ship Productions.
