Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has emphatically refuted any association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein following the appearance of his name in unconfirmed documents circulating online, commonly known as the “Epstein files”. The recent release of investigative documents by the US Department of Justice has sparked renewed global interest in Epstein’s network. As excerpts and screenshots from these documents have spread on social media, numerous well-known figures—many without concrete proof—have been implicated in speculation.
Kashyap’s name was featured in a widely circulated screenshot of an alleged email mentioning a “Bollywood guy” and a “famous Bollywood director” supposedly connected to an Epstein-related event scheduled in Beijing in 2017. This content, disseminated on platforms like Reddit and X, remains unverified. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Kashyap promptly dismissed the allegations, stating, “I have no knowledge of this. I receive approximately 15 speaking invitations per month, and I seldom respond. I have never visited Beijing in my life.”
Casting doubt on the credibility of the circulating material, Kashyap remarked, “It’s just a random email—that speaks for itself. Clickbait articles bearing my name seem to be more popular than my films.” Responses on social media varied from skepticism to humor. A Reddit user quipped, “Are these Epstein’s files or Chitragupt’s ledger? Everyone seems to be included.” Another commenter suggested that focus should remain on those proven to be involved in Epstein’s crimes, rather than individuals whose names appear in alleged invitations.
Previously, filmmaker Mira Nair’s name also emerged in online discussions related to the same document leak, yet no verified proof has linked her to Epstein’s activities. On the professional front, Kashyap recently helmed the two-part crime drama “Nishaanchi”. He is presently gearing up for the Indian premiere of his film “Kennedy”, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023 and has since been showcased at various international events.
