Bangladesh Air Force Personnel Prepped for Neutral Election Duty

Date:

The Bangladesh Air Force has issued directives for its personnel deployed for the upcoming February 12 election. Air Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan emphasized the importance of remaining neutral, being visibly present around polling centers, and adhering to the chain of command at all times. Speaking at the BAF Base Bashar in Dhaka Cantonment, the Chief of Air Staff outlined the additional responsibilities undertaken by the Air Force to ensure a credible and participatory election.

Approximately 3,730 Air Force personnel have been detailed for election duty, with some set to work alongside the army for the first time in the field, while others will support routine operations and act as reserves at bases. Khan instructed personnel to follow their training rigorously, maintain the chain of command, and coordinate effectively with election officials and civil administration.

While emphasizing the sensitive nature of the upcoming period from February 11 to 13, including election night, Khan urged personnel to remain vigilant, respond promptly to calls, and be prepared for extended shifts as needed. The Air Force will provide transport and logistical support for the election, ensuring the movement of materials and personnel to remote areas.

Khan highlighted the importance of ensuring voter safety and smooth operations at polling centers, emphasizing the prevention of post-voting gatherings and the containment of any untoward incidents. He cautioned against engaging in political activities while on leave and stressed the need for discipline throughout the deployment.

In a separate development, the Bangladesh Navy has bolstered coastal security in preparation for the polls. Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hasan visited Barguna to inspect the activities of the naval contingent deployed in various upazilas. The Navy’s efforts aim to contribute to a free, fair, neutral, and peaceful election environment, with a focus on inter-agency coordination and heightened vigilance for voter safety.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) highlighted the deployment of ships and boats in strategic locations such as Bhola, Hatiya, and Cox’s Bazar to enhance coastal security. Additionally, technology-driven surveillance using drones and body-worn cameras, along with patrols and drives to recover illegal arms, have been intensified. The Navy stands ready with ships, helicopters, quick response forces, and squad teams to address any potential challenges during the election period.
