Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General, Mia Golam Porwar, criticized the BNP-led government for selecting party-linked individuals as administrators for six city corporations, stating that the decision does not align with public expectations. In a recent statement from the party’s central publicity department, Porwar expressed dissatisfaction with the appointments made by the Local Government Division on February 22 for Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka South City Corporation, Khulna City Corporation, Sylhet City Corporation, Narayanganj City Corporation, and Gazipur City Corporation. Porwar contended that the government’s choice of administrators reflects a lack of consideration for the people’s desires. He emphasized the objectives of the July uprising to establish a fair and democratic social system, address past injustices, and introduce necessary reforms. Porwar highlighted the importance of democratic processes in filling local government positions, underscoring the citizens’ anticipation of transparent elections. Additionally, he praised positive signals from the Election Commission regarding forthcoming local government elections. Porwar condemned the government’s actions as ethically questionable and potentially misleading to the public. He cautioned that such maneuvers could raise suspicions of election manipulation or postponement. Porwar demanded the withdrawal of party-affiliated administrators’ appointments and urged prompt declaration of election timetables for city corporations and all local government levels.
