A Bangladeshi national working in Lebanon lost her life in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut, as confirmed by the Bangladesh Embassy in the Lebanese capital. The victim, identified as Dipali Begum, aged 34 and hailing from Purbo Shalepur village in Faridpur’s Charbhadrasan upazila, was employed as a housekeeper in Lebanon.
The embassy’s statement revealed that Dipali sustained injuries during an Israeli missile attack on her employer’s residence in Beirut’s Hamra district, where she was residing. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries at a hospital, as reported by her family. The strike also claimed the lives of several members of her employer’s family, according to initial reports.
Authorities disclosed that Dipali’s body is currently held at Rafik Hariri University Hospital’s morgue. Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the breadwinner, the embassy extended heartfelt condolences to her grieving family.
Dipali’s younger sister, Laiju Begum, shared that her sister had relocated to Beirut a month ago due to escalating conflicts in Chur, where she had initially moved two years ago for better work prospects. Charbhadrasan Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shuraiya Mamtaz confirmed efforts are underway to repatriate the deceased’s remains, with full support pledged to the family through diplomatic channels.
The tragic incident marks the seventh Bangladeshi casualty in the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran. The first victim, Ahmed Ali (Saleh Ahmed), lost his life in the UAE on February 28. Subsequently, SM Tareq died in Bahrain on March 2 due to drone debris, while Bachchu Miah and Mosharraf Hossain were killed in Saudi Arabia on March 8. Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun passed away in Riyadh on March 18 following injuries from the same attack. Another victim, Mosaffir Hossain, lost his life in Fujairah, UAE, on April 1, struck by falling drone wreckage.
