Nigar Sultana Joty is confident that the Bangladesh team is in a stronger position to enhance their performance at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to kick off in England on June 12. Despite a history of only three victories in 25 matches across six editions of the tournament, Bangladesh is determined to reverse this trend.
To gear up for the upcoming World Cup, the team will engage in a tri-series in Scotland before making their way to England. While a portion of the squad has already departed, the rest are set to leave on May 26.
Bangladesh’s prior successes in the World Cup have been against Sri Lanka, Ireland, and Scotland. In the previous edition held in Dubai, they managed to secure a victory against Scotland but faced defeats in the remaining three matches, finishing fourth in their group.
In anticipation of their departure, Captain Joty expressed confidence in the team’s prospects for this tournament. She noted, “Compared to the last World Cup, I believe our team composition has improved. We have been diligently preparing since the last series, focusing on enhancing our performance. Although we faced challenges in recent matches, we identified positives, especially with our bowling unit excelling and several players demonstrating consistency.”
Joty emphasized the significant contributions of bowlers like Marufa Akter and Nahida Akter, highlighting the team’s increased depth. She stated, “In the past, we relied heavily on a few players in T20 matches, but now we see emerging talents stepping up. With players like Nahida and Marufa performing impressively, our team is eager to make an impact at the World Cup. By playing collectively, we aim to surpass our previous World Cup performance.”
