Bluesky CEO Steps Down for Chief Innovation Role

Date:

Bluesky announced on March 9 that Jay Graber, the current CEO, will be stepping down from the company’s top leadership position to take on the newly established role of Chief Innovation Officer.

Graber, in a recent blog post revealing the leadership transition, mentioned that as Bluesky has evolved, it now necessitates “an experienced operator dedicated to expansion and implementation.” She expressed her intention to concentrate more on advancing the platform’s technology and delving into fresh concepts for the network.

The platform has seen rapid expansion in recent times, notably after Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in 2022, rebranding it as X, which drove some users to explore other options. Bluesky has positioned itself as a decentralized social network, positioning it as a rival to services like Threads.

Having served as the CEO of Bluesky since 2021, Graber will be temporarily succeeded by Toni Schneider. Schneider, the former CEO of Automattic and a partner at True Ventures, will oversee the company’s operations while the board seeks a permanent chief executive. Both Automattic and True Ventures have investments in Bluesky.

According to the company, Bluesky currently boasts a user base exceeding 43 million.
