“BNP MP Surrenders Supporters Over Post-Election Violence”

Sheikh Farid Ahmed, the recently elected BNP Member of Parliament representing Chandpur-3, has surrendered five party supporters to the authorities following accusations of engaging in tumultuous activities after the national election held on February 12.

The individuals detained have been named as Nahidul Islam Jony (22), Mobarak Hossain Bepari (26), Jony Gazi (30), and two others known as Monir and Fahim, all residing in the Wireless Bazar vicinity of Chandpur town.

Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Md Foyez Ahmed, affirmed the situation, stating that the detainees are presently under police custody.

He mentioned, “Upon verification, appropriate legal measures will be taken against them. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals implicated in the altercations.”

According to local reports, conflicting factions within the BNP clashed intermittently on the day of the election and subsequently on Friday within ward 13 of Chandpur municipality, utilizing homemade sharp weapons and instigating fear among the populace.

The confrontations escalated gradually, leading the newly elected parliamentarian to pinpoint those responsible and surrender them to law enforcement.
