The 13th parliamentary election concluded peacefully, with unofficial results indicating clear victories for prominent candidates who garnered significant attention online and during the campaigning period.
Tarique Rahman, the BNP Chairman, emerged as the unofficial winner in Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6, securing substantial leads over his opponents. In Dhaka-17, Tarique, running with the party’s “sheaf of paddy” symbol, obtained 72,699 votes, surpassing Dr. Khaleduzzaman of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, who received 68,300 votes. Similarly, in Bogura-6, Tarique garnered 216,284 votes, while his closest competitor, Abidur Rahman Sohel of Jamaat, received 97,626 votes.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the BNP Secretary General, unofficially won in Thakurgaon-1, securing 238,836 votes with the party’s symbol. His victory margin reached 97,819 votes after the final results, including postal ballots, were counted.
Another BNP Standing Committee member, Mirza Abbas, clinched victory in Dhaka-8 with 59,366 votes, surpassing Nasiruddin Patwary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), who received 54,127 votes.
In Netrokona-4, BNP candidate Lutfozzaman Babar secured 121,825 votes against Jamaat-nominated candidate Md Al Helal’s 31,453 votes based on results from 115 out of 150 centers.
Salahuddin Ahmed, a BNP candidate, emerged victorious in Cox’s Bazar-1 with 222,019 votes, surpassing Jamaat candidate Abdullah Al Faruk, who received 129,728 votes.
Fazlur Rahman, a BNP candidate and freedom fighter, defeated Jamaat’s Rokon Reza Sheikh in Kishoreganj-4 by a margin of nearly 72,000 votes, securing 129,954 votes compared to 57,326 votes.
Apart from the BNP, other notable figures secured victories in their respective constituencies. Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman won in Dhaka-15 with 85,131 votes, defeating BNP candidate Safiqul Islam Khan by a margin of 21,614 votes.
In Brahmanbaria-2, independent candidate Rumeen Farhana emerged as the unofficial winner with 117,495 votes, surpassing Jamiat-e-Ulama-backed candidate Junaid Al Habib by a margin of 37,568 votes.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam secured victory in Dhaka-11 with 93,872 votes, defeating BNP candidate MA Kaiyum by 2,039 votes.
In Cumilla-4, NCP Chief Organiser (South) Hasnat Abdullah obtained 166,583 votes, while BNP-backed Ganadhikar Parishad candidate Jasim Uddin received 49,885 votes.
Akhtar Hossain, the NCP Member Secretary, won unofficially in Rangpur-4 with 149,966 votes, defeating BNP candidate Emdadul Haque Bhorsa, who secured 140,564 votes.
In Noakhali-6, NCP leader Abdul Hannan Masud secured 91,899 votes, surpassing BNP candidate Mahbuber Rahman Shamim, who received 64,021 votes.
The Election Commission reported a voter turnout of 59.44% for the 13th parliamentary election and referendum. Thousands of voters, including individuals with disabilities, patiently queued at polling stations nationwide to exercise their right to vote for representatives in 299 out of the 300 parliamentary seats.
