Burglars targeted the residence of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir in Bagerhat late on Monday night. They stole power supply cables from the three-story building located in the Amlapara area of the town, with the theft being discovered the following morning.
Local law enforcement authorities are actively working to identify the individuals responsible for the burglary and recover the stolen cables. A scrap dealer from the vicinity has been apprehended for questioning, as there are suspicions that the stolen copper wires might have been sold at a nearby establishment.
According to family members, heavy rainfall during Monday night caused a power outage, providing an opportunity for the thieves to trespass onto the property. Despite the presence of CCTV cameras surrounding the premises, the culprits managed to avoid detection and cut approximately two coils of copper wire connecting the main line to the meter.
The stolen copper wiring has an estimated value of around Tk 60,000. Md Hasan Chowdhury, the superintendent of police in Bagerhat, confirmed that multiple investigative teams are currently looking into the incident.
