Two individuals lost their lives and four others sustained injuries following a collision between a bus and a battery-operated easy bike being utilized for election campaigning in Gopalganj earlier today.
The deceased have been identified as Jikar Sardar, aged 40, from Shuktail Charpara, and Hasib Sheikh, aged 38, both residents of the same locality in Gopalganj Sadar. They were passengers on the easy bike at the time of the tragic incident, as reported by the police.
According to Md Masud Khan, the Police Inspector at Bhatiapara Highway, the collision occurred at approximately 12:00pm near the Dumdia Bus Stand area in Gopalganj Sadar upazila along the Dhaka-Khulna highway. The collision involved an easy bike used for election campaigning and a bus belonging to Hamim Paribahan en route from Dhaka to Khulna. The impact resulted in the destruction of the easy bike, leading to the immediate deaths of Jikar Sardar and Hasib Sheikh. The other four passengers onboard the easy bike sustained severe injuries and were promptly transported to Gopalganj Medical College Hospital.
Following the incident, there was a brief disruption in traffic flow along the highway; however, the police swiftly managed to restore order and clear the road.
Authorities have initiated legal proceedings in connection with the incident, informed the inspector.
