Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus stated that if the “Yes” vote wins in the upcoming referendum on February 12, the country will witness a significant transformation and avoid a return to misrule. He also expressed optimism that the national parliamentary election on the same day would be conducted in a free, fair, peaceful, and celebratory manner.
Speaking at a farewell gathering with all secretaries at his office, the chief adviser highlighted the potential positive impact of a “Yes” vote on Bangladesh’s future. He reassured that the upcoming election is expected to surpass previous ones in terms of quality and peacefulness, noting the absence of major tensions related to the polls so far.
Prof Yunus emphasized the importance of the large presence of international observers from various countries, indicating a renewed global confidence in Bangladesh’s democracy and a serious international interest in the election process.
He thanked the secretaries for their dedication and efficiency in handling approximately 130 ordinances issued by the interim government in the past 18 months, acknowledging their crucial role in expediting government work.
Later in the day, the chief adviser chaired a special meeting of the Advisory Council, during which a draft ordinance and two policies were approved. The council endorsed the “Bangladesh Public Service Commission (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026,” eliminating the need for prior government approval for the PSC to utilize its allocated funds, streamlining financial processes. Additionally, the council approved the drafts of the “National Qualifications Framework Policy, 2026” and the “National Fisheries Policy, 2026.”
