Three prominent cinema chains in the country, namely Star Cineplex, Blockbuster Cinemas, and Lion Cinemas, have announced temporary closures in light of the upcoming referendum and the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
Star Cineplex authorities have confirmed that all their branches will be closed on Wednesday (February 11) and Thursday (February 12). Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Senior Manager (Marketing) at Star Cineplex, stated that regular operations are scheduled to resume starting Friday (February 13).
Similarly, Blockbuster Cinemas has issued a statement declaring a three-day closure during the election period. The cinema chain will be closed from Wednesday to Friday, with screenings expected to recommence on Saturday (February 14).
Following suit, Lion Cinemas has adjusted its schedule to align with the election dates, halting operations on Wednesday and Thursday. The cineplex plans to reopen on Friday to welcome back audiences.
The decision to temporarily close these cinemas is in accordance with the government’s directive to shut down shops, shopping malls, and commercial establishments nationwide to encourage widespread public participation in the voting process. As part of this directive, cinema halls throughout the country have ceased operations for the duration of the election.
