“City Editor of Dinkal Dies at 69”

Ali Mahmud, the city editor of the daily Dinkal, passed away due to a heart attack at the age of 69 on Monday. Concern arose among his family members when he didn’t return home on Sunday night. His wife, Jesmin Ara, and other relatives searched for him at the Jatiya Press Club the following day.

Upon inquiry at the club, they were informed by a cleaning staff member that Ali Mahmud was found unconscious in a washroom. Subsequently, the police transferred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where medical professionals pronounced him deceased.

Survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter, Ali Mahmud was born in 1956 in Paba upazila of Rajshahi. He initiated his journalism career after graduating from Rajshahi University, commencing at the Rajshahi-based daily Barta. He later transitioned to Dhaka and became a part of Dinkal, holding various significant roles over the years. At the time of his demise, he served as the city editor.

A member of the Jatiya Press Club, Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), Ali Mahmud also had ties with the BNP’s media cell.

The news of his passing brought sorrow to the journalist community, especially his colleagues at Dinkal. Described as modest, dedicated, and diligent, he remained actively involved in reporting throughout his professional journey. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Media Cell Convener Professor Maudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel, Member Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, and BNP Chairperson’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibli expressed shock and sympathy for his family in separate statements.
