“Committee to Investigate Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup Absence”

Date:

State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque, announced plans on Tuesday to establish a committee to investigate the reasons for Bangladesh’s absence from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup held in India and Sri Lanka.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) withdrew from the tournament citing security worries, leading to Scotland taking their place. Despite the players expressing interest in participating, the decision made by the board, influenced by the interim government’s security concerns, sparked controversy.

“We aim to analyze the reasons behind our non-participation in the World Cup and then chart our future course of action. While the event proceeded, our inability to take part due to sports diplomacy issues requires scrutiny. We intend to set up a committee to delve into the matter, pinpoint our challenges, understand any diplomatic lapses, and request explanations from the cricket board and relevant stakeholders,” Aminul informed reporters during an event at Mirpur Bangla School and College.

Additionally, a delegation from the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) met with the minister. Aminul assured CWAB president Mohammad Mithun that efforts would be made to uncover the rationale behind the decision.

“Following a meeting with CWAB, led by Mohammad Mithun, I have acknowledged their concerns and pledged to initiate investigations post Ramadan to ascertain the reasons for Bangladesh’s non-participation in the World Cup,” he stated.
