Dhaka Court Orders CID Progress Report by February 3

Date:

A Dhaka court has instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to provide a progress report by February 3 regarding the case related to the assassination of Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson for Inqilab Moncho.

The order was issued by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Zonaid after the CID missed the deadline for submitting the report, as informed by a police official from the court.

Earlier, on January 25, the court had set the deadline for the CID to present the report, the official added.

On December 12 of the previous year, Hadi, an independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, was fatally shot in the Paltan area of Dhaka while campaigning. He succumbed to his injuries on December 18 in Singapore.

Subsequently, on December 14, Abdullah Al Jaber, the Member Secretary of Inqilab Moncho, lodged an attempted murder case at the Paltan Model Police Station against Faisal and several unidentified individuals, which later escalated to a murder case.

On January 6 of this year, Faisal Ahmed, the investigating officer and an inspector at the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, submitted a charge sheet to the court, implicating primary suspect Faisal Karim Masud, four of his family members, and 12 others.

Following this, on January 15, the complainant, Abdullah Al Jaber, lodged a no-confidence (naraji) petition with the court, disputing the investigation report.

Upon accepting the petition, the court directed the CID to carry out further investigations into the matter.
