“Drone Attacks Cause Severe Damage to AWS Data Centers in Middle East”

Date:

Amazon Web Services has officially stated that drone attacks have caused severe damage to various data center facilities in the Middle East, leading to extensive service disruptions in both the UAE and Bahrain regions.

Reports from AWS service updates indicate that two facilities in the UAE were directly hit by the strikes, and a nearby facility in Bahrain also suffered physical harm. The company revealed that the attacks resulted in structural impairments, power supply disruptions, and necessitated fire suppression measures, which ultimately caused additional water-related damages.

In an official statement, Amazon acknowledged that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East had led to physical impacts on infrastructure due to the drone attacks.

The most recent update reveals that two out of three Availability Zones in the UAE region continue to experience significant disruptions. Users are encountering increased error rates across various services such as EC2, S3, and DynamoDB.

AWS emphasized that the recovery process will be lengthy due to the extent of physical damage. The company recommended affected customers to secure critical data backups and transfer workloads to alternative regions, cautioning that the overall operational conditions in the Middle East remain uncertain. However, it did not mention any information regarding potential employee injuries.
