The Election Commission (EC) has instructed the preservation of video recordings from CCTV cameras at polling stations during the 13th National Parliamentary Election. This directive was communicated in a letter signed by Mohammad Monir Hossain, the deputy secretary of the EC Secretariat, and distributed to all returning officers nationwide.
As per the communication, the EC has mandated the retention of CCTV footage captured at polling stations on both the day preceding the election and on the election day itself during the 13th National Parliamentary Election held on February 12. The purpose of this directive is to retain the recordings at the offices of the respective assistant returning officers for potential future evidentiary requirements.
The letter emphasized the importance of adhering to the EC’s decision by ensuring the proper safeguarding of the CCTV footage captured on the day before and during the polling day at the offices of the relevant assistant returning officers.
