At least two individuals lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries in an explosion caused by a crude bomb at a residence in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila in the early hours of the day, as reported by the authorities.
The tragic incident took place at approximately 5:30 am at the home of a resident named Kalam in Fatapara village, located within Bagdanga union, according to information provided by the police.
Witnesses in the area mentioned that the explosion was so intense that it resulted in severe burns on the bodies of the deceased individuals, destroyed the tin roof of the house, and caused the brick walls to collapse.
Authorities have yet to confirm the identities of those who lost their lives in the blast. The injured parties have been identified as Md Minhaj, aged 25, and Bazlur Rahman, aged 20, both residing in Fatapara village, along with Md Shuvo, aged 20, from Dhumi Ranihati village.
The injured individuals were taken to Rajshahi Medical College hospital for treatment, although one of them reportedly absconded from the local medical facility, according to police sources.
Yasir Arafat, the additional superintendent of police (Sadar Circle) in Chapainawabganj, stated, “Following the explosion, two bodies were discovered inside the house. Presently, three other individuals have been rescued and are receiving medical attention at the hospital.”
He further added, “Preliminarily, it is suspected that the deaths resulted from a crude bomb explosion, as evidence of the blast is scattered throughout the area. A forensic team is en route; more information will be provided upon their arrival.”
Regarding inquiries about the explosion being related to the production of incendiary devices, the police official remarked, “It is not yet confirmed whether the incident occurred during the manufacturing or transportation of explosives. A comprehensive investigation will be conducted to clarify the situation.”
