Chowdhury Ashraful Bari Noman, who previously held the position of Habiganj district unit president for Gono Odhikar Parishad, made the decision to switch his allegiance and join Jamaat-e-Islami. Accompanied by approximately 300 followers, the formal joining event took place at the election office of Kazi Mohsin Ahmed, the Jamaat Secretary of Habiganj district and the Jamaat candidate for the Habiganj-3 constituency, located in the Anantapur area of Habiganj municipality.
Noman, a lawyer professionally, initially filed nomination papers as a Gono Odhikar Parishad candidate for the Habiganj-3 constituency. However, he later retracted his nomination in compliance with the party’s directive due to Gono Odhikar Parishad’s alliance with BNP. Expressing discontent with the party’s present circumstances, Noman tendered his resignation from Gono Odhikar Parishad on Sunday.
Upon joining Jamaat, Noman and the other leaders and activists were greeted with floral gestures by District Jamaat Ameer Maulana Mukhlisur Rahman. District Jamaat Secretary Mohsin expressed optimism that the addition of Noman and his followers, totaling around 300 individuals, would bolster the organizational structure of Jamaat in Habiganj.
Noman emphasized that their decision to align with Jamaat was driven by their aspiration to engage in ideology-centered politics and contribute to the country’s development.
