“Gas Explosion at Nigerian Mine Claims 38 Lives”

Date:

A deadly gas explosion occurred yesterday at a mining site in central Nigeria’s Plateau state, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 38 lead miners. According to local sources, the incident took place at the Kampanin Zurak mining site in Plateau state’s Bashar district, where 27 others were also injured.

The acting traditional ruler, Alhaji Aliyu Adamu Idris, confirmed the devastating toll, stating that 38 individuals had lost their lives, with 27 others receiving urgent medical attention at nearby hospitals. Ibrahim Dattijo Sani, a miner working at a pit close to the site of the explosion, recounted that the victims were underground at the time of the blast, which occurred between 7:30 and 8:00 am.

Sani described the harrowing event, explaining that the gas explosion took place suddenly while workers were inside the mining pits. Tragically, this is not the first fatal mining accident in Nigeria, as the country has experienced similar incidents in the past.
