Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, has announced that the annual Google I/O developer conference is scheduled to occur on May 19 and 20 at the company’s headquarters in Mountain View, California. CEO Sundar Pichai revealed the dates in a post on X on February 18. The event will be available for online streaming through the conference website, maintaining the hybrid format used in recent editions.
Google I/O serves as a platform to unveil updates to the company’s software platforms and artificial intelligence innovations. Anticipated highlights for this year include advancements in the Gemini AI models and other generative AI tools, in addition to potential hardware-related announcements.
Google had previously disclosed plans to introduce its inaugural artificial intelligence-powered smart glasses in 2026. The smart glasses sector has gained significant attention, with products like Meta Platforms’ Ray-Ban smart glasses driving market interest. According to CNBC, EssilorLuxottica, the manufacturer of Ray-Ban, reported that sales of Meta’s AI glasses surged in 2025, exceeding 7 million units sold.
