State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat announced today that the government is aiming to streamline airport services by ensuring prompt delivery of luggage to air passengers right after they complete immigration procedures. Addressing the press at the Secretariat on his inaugural workday, he disclosed ongoing plans to enhance the overall traveler experience from ticket purchase to baggage retrieval.
Millat emphasized the necessity of revamping airport procedures to alleviate passenger inconveniences, particularly focusing on eliminating long waits at baggage carousels, where travelers currently endure significant delays ranging from one to two hours. He highlighted the initiative’s dual objective of expediting luggage handling processes and combating corrupt practices associated with baggage collection.
In response to grievances regarding ticket unavailability, Millat pointed out instances where flights operate with vacant seats while travelers struggle to secure tickets, attributing this issue to existing syndicates. Assuring proactive measures, he acknowledged the prevailing challenges and pledged imminent improvements, with visible progress anticipated within a span of one to two weeks.
Regarding widespread corruption in the sector spanning the last 15 years, the state minister underscored the government’s commitment to probing allegations of malpractice. He assured that corrective actions would be taken to address the persisting integrity issues, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to eradicate corruption and enhance transparency within the aviation industry.
