“Industrial Police in Gazipur Recover 97.03 Lakh Taka Stolen from Chinese Chairman’s Vehicle”

The Industrial Police in Gazipur apprehended three individuals, including the personal chauffeur of a Chinese chairman of a garment factory, in connection with the theft of one crore Taka from the chairman’s vehicle. Within 48 hours, the police managed to recover 97.03 lakh Taka of the stolen sum.

During a press briefing at the conference room of Industrial Police-2 in Gazipur, Mohammad Amzad Hossain, the police superintendent of Industrial Police-2, Gazipur, PPM-Service, revealed the details of the incident. On September 1 at approximately 7 pm, the Chinese chairman of Lavender Fashion, a garment factory in Rajendrapur, halted for a break near Purbachal Cadet Club in Narayanganj while returning to Dhaka from the factory. Allegedly, at that moment, his personal driver, Zahid Hasan, absconded with one crore Taka that was intended for workers’ wages and other factory expenses.

Following a complaint filed at Rupganj Police Station in Narayanganj, Industrial Police-2 in Gazipur initiated a parallel investigation. Through operations in various areas of Dhaka, Gazipur, and Jhenaidah, the police arrested Md Zahid Hasan, aged 30, from Kulbaria village under Harinakundu Police Station in Jhenaidah district. Subsequently, they recovered 86 lakh Taka from his residence. Another suspect, Md Aktaruzzaman, aged 51, from Kanchannagar village in Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station, was also apprehended, with 1.03 lakh Taka seized from him. Additionally, Aktaruzzaman’s wife, Nasima Akter, aged 24, from Palashbari village in Taraganj Police Station in Rangpur, was captured in Tongi, where an additional 10 lakh Taka was recovered.

According to the police, Zahid had spent approximately 1.20 lakh Taka of the stolen money on renting a new residence, acquiring furniture, and purchasing a new mobile phone for 33,000 Taka. The furniture and mobile phone bought with the stolen funds were also retrieved during the operation. Police Superintendent Mohammad Amzad Hossain emphasized the commitment of Industrial Police-2 to safeguard the industrial and investment landscape and combat industry-related crimes. He lauded the swift operation that led to the detention of the primary suspect within 48 hours and the recovery of a substantial portion of the stolen money.

The Detective Branch team of Jhenaidah District Police collaborated with Industrial Police-2, Gazipur, during the operation. The arrested individuals, along with the recovered money and other items, were transferred to Rupganj Police Station in Narayanganj.
