In Chattogram, members of the Inqilab Moncho held a protest rally and sit-in at the Sholoshahar area today, denouncing an alleged police attack on the organization’s leaders in Dhaka. They converged at the Sholoshahar Gate-2 intersection in the afternoon, voicing their discontent with the police actions and calling for justice for those affected. Although locals reported some disruption to traffic flow due to the sit-in, law enforcement assured that the situation remained calm.
Abdul Karim, the officer-in-charge of Panchlaish Police Station, confirmed to The Daily Star that the Inqilab Moncho activists were conducting their rally peacefully without obstructing the road or causing traffic disturbances.
The protest was triggered by reports of a police altercation with Inqilab Moncho’s Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber and other activists near Jamuna, the chief adviser’s official residence earlier in the day. The platform announced a condemnation program for the “unprovoked attack” on their official Facebook page at around 5:00 pm.
Inqilab Moncho has been at the forefront of a movement seeking justice for the slain spokesperson, Sharif Osman Hadi. A confrontation unfolded in Dhaka as activists tried to march towards Jamuna to emphasize their demands, resulting in a standoff with law enforcement.
The Chattogram branch of Inqilab Moncho cautioned of escalating actions if the authorities do not hold the police officers responsible for the assault accountable.
