Lawsuit Filed Against Backers of MP Farhana

Date:

A new lawsuit has been initiated against backers of MP Barrister Rumeen Farhana, following a previous report of disruption at the Shaheed Minar in Sarail, Brahmanbaria. The case was filed by Tamim Mia, an employee of a business linked to Anwar Hossain, also known as Anwar Master, a district BNP member and former general secretary of the Sarail upazila BNP unit, at the Sarail Police Station on Sunday evening.

The complaint targets 17 individuals by name and includes 100 to 150 others as unidentified suspects. Sarail Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Manzur Kader Bhuiyan, confirmed the submission of the case.

As per the First Information Report (FIR), a group of accused individuals assembled outside Anwar Hossain’s Farzana Anwar Diagnostic Center and residence in the early hours of February 21, engaging in verbal abuse. When Tamim objected, he allegedly faced physical assault and theft. The FIR also alleges that supporters of Rumeen Farhana caused disruption after rallying at the Shaheed Minar on the same day.

Prior to this, in the afternoon of the same day, a supporter of Rumeen Farhana had filed a distinct case pinpointing Anwar Hossain as the main suspect, alongside four others, and naming 150 unidentified persons.

The incident unfolded shortly after midnight on February 21, when Rumeen Farhana visited the Sarail Central Shaheed Minar to honor International Mother Language Day. Allegedly, she encountered obstruction, with reports of her supporters being attacked, and consequently departed without paying homage amid escalating tensions.
