A madrasa teacher in Patuakhali’s Rangabali has been remanded to jail for allegedly sexually abusing a 10-year-old student. The decision was made by the Patuakhali Senior Judicial Magistrate following the presentation of the accused, Hafez Shafiqul Islam Jisan, a 20-year-old from Barishal, before the court. The case falls under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act of 2000.
Hafez Jisan was apprehended at noon yesterday after community members and the victim’s family detained him inside the madrasa. The incident transpired around 12:30 am when Jisan lured the student from the Hifz department to his quarters. The child managed to flee in the morning and informed his family about the ordeal.
Subsequently, local residents staged a demonstration demanding justice, while the victim’s mother reportedly confronted the teacher prior to police intervention. The Madrasa’s Board President, Saiful Islam, disavowed any responsibility, asserting that the accused had been surrendered to the authorities.
The victim is presently undergoing medical treatment, and Hafez Jisan commenced his teaching role at the madrasa on April 28.
