“Managing Director of Bangladesh News Agency Departs Amid No-Confidence Vote”

Date:

After a formal expression of no confidence by journalists and employees, Mahbub Morshed, the Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), departed the news agency’s premises this afternoon. The decision to take action had been delayed by the BSS Journalists-Employees Unity Council prior to the national election to avoid any impact on election coverage.

Following the election, a meeting was convened where it was unanimously agreed that no one would continue working under Mahbub Morshed. This collective lack of confidence was communicated to him, with the leaders stating their intention to inform the government of their stance. Subsequently, upon receiving the news, Mahbub Morshed promptly left the office without access to the office car, as per the leaders.

Despite multiple attempts to contact Mahbub Morshed via phone calls and text messages by The Daily Star, he remained unresponsive. Earlier, in a Facebook post today, Mahbub Morshed expressed his thoughts on the situation, addressing the incoming government and the circumstances surrounding his position as BSS Managing Director and Chief Editor.

Publicly, leaders of the Dhaka Reporters Unity have demanded an apology from Mahbub Morshed and called for his removal, citing allegations of misconduct.
