Captain Mitchell Marsh and star batsman Travis Head have been declared unfit for Australia’s upcoming one-day international series in Bangladesh. In their absence, Josh Inglis will take over the leadership role for the team.
Both Marsh and Head were absent during Australia’s recent 2-1 ODI series loss to Pakistan. Marsh was dealing with an ankle injury, while Head was on personal leave.
Additionally, leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha will also miss the three-match series in Dhaka due to a hamstring injury. However, Marsh is expected to join the team to prepare for the subsequent Twenty20 series in Bangladesh.
Young batsman Ollie Peake and power-hitter Matt Short, who were supposed to return home after the Pakistan series, will now remain with the squad.
To fill in for Sangha, off-spinner Todd Murphy, who has Test experience but is yet to play limited-overs cricket for Australia, will step in.
National selector Tony Dodemaide expressed regret over Sangha’s injury and Marsh’s continued recovery from his ankle issue. He also noted that Head was initially part of the squad for both the ODI and T20I legs of the Bangladesh tour but was later granted personal leave for both formats.
The Australia squad for the Bangladesh ODIs includes Josh Inglis, Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Todd Murphy, Oliver Peake, Matthew Renshaw, Liam Scott, Matt Short, and Adam Zampa.
For the T20Is in Bangladesh, Mitchell Marsh will lead the team, supported by Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Joel Davies, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Matthew Kuhnemann, Riley Meredith, Josh Philippe, Matthew Renshaw, and Adam Zampa.
