Meta has disclosed that they will be implementing price hikes on their Quest virtual reality headset range due to a worldwide increase in memory chip costs being the primary reason behind the decision. Starting on April 19, the Meta Quest 3S with 128GB storage will see a $50 raise to $349.99, while the 256GB version will also go up by $50 to $449.99. Furthermore, the Meta Quest 3 is set to receive a $100 price bump, bringing the new cost to $599.99.
In an official blog post, Meta emphasized that the global spike in critical component prices, particularly memory chips, is impacting various consumer electronics sectors, including VR. The company explained that the price adjustments are essential to uphold the quality of hardware, software, and support provided through the Quest platform.
The price adjustments will also extend to refurbished Meta Quest units, while the prices of accessories will remain unchanged. Meta is now among several tech giants, including Samsung, Microsoft, and Sony, that are raising hardware prices in response to the current RAM scarcity issue.
