MP Sarwar Nizam’s Visit Triggers Swift Discharges

Date:

Twenty-three individuals who arrived at Anwara Upazila Health Complex with alleged injuries from election-related violence were discharged shortly after the local MP Sarwar Jamal Nizam concluded his official visit. Sarwar, the MP representing Chattogram‑13 (Anwara‑Karnaphuli) and a member of the BNP central executive committee, visited the facility around 12:30 pm on Monday.

Before his arrival, the 23 individuals had checked in, citing injuries from clashes during the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Hospital staff noted that many of them had fresh bandages. However, once the MP departed around 1:00 pm, all 23 individuals checked out within minutes, causing distress to other patients at the health complex.

During the incident, two patients named Mohammad Alamgir and Mohammad Hossain claimed that they were displaced from their beds to accommodate the newcomers, being made to wait in corridors until the MP’s entourage left. Dr. Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, refuted claims of negligence, stating that the group was admitted for “follow-up” treatment and placed together for easier management, with other patients relocated to available beds.

The 23 individuals were discharged only after indicating improvement in their condition. Efforts to contact MP Sarwar for comments were unsuccessful.
