NCP Convener and Dhaka-11 lawmaker Nahid Islam expressed concern over the current government’s lack of popularity, noting that it is unprecedented in Bangladesh’s history for a government to become so unpopular in such a short period. He questioned the future of the government over the next six months during his address at a rally organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at Suhrawardy Udyan.
Emphasizing the importance of honoring the July Uprising and the sacrifices made by martyrs, Nahid stated that his party is actively engaged both on the streets and in parliament to advocate for these causes. He criticized the BNP for obstructing reforms and opposing key proposals at the Consensus Commission, despite the hopes for change sparked by the July Uprising.
Nahid highlighted the irony of the BNP rejecting the referendum process that led to its formation, suggesting that the party is now contradicting its own origins. He cautioned the BNP against emulating the Awami League’s actions and warned that the public and youth would resist any efforts to impede reforms.
The rally also featured speeches from Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Opposition Leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, LDP Chairman Col (retd) Oli Ahmad, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque, and other senior leaders of the 11-party alliance.
