After fulfilling the demand for offices in constituencies by the government, NCP legislator Hasnat Abdullah now advocates for car facilities to enhance interaction with the public.
Earlier on March 31, NCP MP Atiqur Rahman Mujahid had urged for offices for MPs in their respective constituencies.
During today’s session, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives (LGRD) Mir Shahe Alam highlighted a recent complaint by an MP regarding the lack of designated sitting areas for lawmakers at upazila parishads.
In response, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman directed the minister to address the issue promptly.
An official government directive has been issued to set up rooms equipped with furniture and attached bathrooms in every upazila parishad for MPs and ministers to utilize. These rooms, named “Inspection Rooms,” will be operational shortly to accommodate MPs conducting essential tasks and engaging with the public across all upazilas within their constituencies.
Commending the decision, NCP MP Hasnat expressed gratitude for the provision of dedicated spaces for MPs but emphasized the need for car facilities to facilitate better outreach to constituents.
Highlighting the disparity in transportation resources, Hasnat noted the availability of cars for UNOs and upazila chairmen while MPs currently have to hire cars, suggesting that access to cars would simplify efforts to connect with the public effectively.
Echoing this sentiment, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed clarified that the prime minister has disallowed tax-free cars or plots for MPs. Additionally, Jamaat-e-Islami MP Shahjahan Chowdhury shared a similar decision from his party.
Salahuddin urged the prime minister to take necessary measures to arrange cars for MPs following the deliberation on the matter.
