A new movie titled “Manushtike Dekh” (See the Person), directed by Gazi Rakayet, is scheduled for release in theaters throughout Bangladesh on April 14, in celebration of Pahela Baishakh, the Bengali New Year.
Rakayet, known for his acclaimed films “Mrittika Maya” (2013) and “Gor” (2020), which garnered recognition at various international film festivals and received multiple accolades at the National Film Awards, is now bringing his third feature film to the audience. “Manushtike Dekh” aims to shed light on cerebral palsy, challenging the prejudices and misunderstandings surrounding individuals with disabilities, with the goal of fostering empathy and acceptance towards them.
Funded by the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), the film’s original script was crafted by British writer, producer, and director Elspeth Waldie. The screenplay was translated into Bangla by producer Humayun Farid, with Rakayet and Farid collaborating on the editing and dialogues.
The movie’s recently unveiled trailer provides a glimpse into the narrative, focusing on Farida, a disabled journalist who manages an organization supporting children with disabilities. Her life takes a new direction when she crosses paths with Firoz, a wealthy man who falls in love with her. Meanwhile, another disabled man, Abdul, finds himself unwittingly involved in criminal activities, leading to his wrongful arrest by the police. Farida embarks on a mission to prove Abdul’s innocence while facing opposition from Firoz’s disapproving father regarding their relationship.
Featuring a talented ensemble cast including Rashna Sharmin Camey, Tahmid Arefin Haque, Tariq Anam Khan, Mili Bashar, Mamunur Rashid, Rahmat Ali, Shatabdi Wadud, Lara Lotus, Ehsanur Rahman, Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, Rajib Saleheen, Sharmimala, Mrinal Dutta, Ananda Khaled, and Tahmina Mona, the film also includes a special appearance by CRP founder Valerie Ann Taylor.
