New Zealand’s stand-in skipper, Tom Latham, has acknowledged the upcoming challenges his team will face in spin-friendly conditions as they prepare for the white-ball series in Bangladesh. Latham highlighted the importance of quickly adapting to the subcontinental conditions, which differ significantly from their home conditions.
“We are aware of the significant role spin plays in these conditions, which are different from those in New Zealand. Preparation before the game is crucial in starting the series well. Adapting effectively is key for us,” Latham stated before the team’s departure.
Due to the absence of around 10 key players engaged in franchise leagues, a second-string New Zealand squad is set to arrive in Dhaka today in two phases. The team will kick off their preparations with indoor training sessions at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur after a rest day.
Despite missing senior players, Latham expressed optimism about the squad’s depth, emphasizing the opportunity for less experienced players to showcase their skills.
The three-match ODI series will kick off on April 17 in Mirpur, followed by the second match on April 20 at the same venue. The tour will then move to Chattogram for the final ODI on April 23. The T20I leg will start in Chattogram on April 27, with the series concluding in Dhaka on May 1.
Bangladesh has opted for continuity by retaining the same squad that played against Pakistan in the previous home series. The hosts aim to capitalize on their recent ODI success and strengthen their position for direct qualification to the next World Cup.
