The Election Commission announced that Nusrat Tabassum’s nomination paper for a reserved women’s seat in the 13th National Parliament, representing the National Citizen Party under the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance, has been deemed valid. The Returning Officer and Election Commission Joint Secretary, Md Moin Uddin Khan, confirmed this development, stating that Nusrat’s nomination paper passed scrutiny and was declared valid at 11:00 am yesterday.
The nomination will be presented before the Election Commission for further review and decision-making regarding the legal procedures. The election schedule for the 50 reserved women’s seats was announced by the EC on April 8, with a nomination paper submission deadline of April 21. Nusrat submitted her papers to the EC’s dispatch branch at 4:19 pm on April 21, slightly after the deadline, leading to the initial refusal by the returning officer.
Following this, Nusrat took the matter to the High Court, which, on April 27, instructed the EC to accept her nomination paper. Subsequently, on April 29, the EC issued a circular confirming the acceptance of Nusrat’s nomination paper and scheduled the scrutiny process for the following day.
