“Opposition Leader Raises Concerns Over Banking Threats”

Date:

The Leader of the Opposition and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Shafiqur Rahman, raised concerns about alleged threats facing scheduled and commercial banks following the Bangladesh Bank incident. Speaking at the inauguration of Jamaat’s district and metropolitan ameer conference in Dhaka, he emphasized that banks are the people’s assets, not affiliated with any political party.

Shafiqur Rahman highlighted the issue of financial misconduct, stating that significant amounts of money have been embezzled from banks without proper recovery efforts. He criticized the lack of action against those responsible and accused the authorities of hindering accountability measures.

The opposition leader also criticized political interference in the appointment of central bank leaders, cautioning about the potential risks to the country’s financial stability. He pointed out instances where loan defaulters were allegedly favored with loan rescheduling and influential positions.

Encouraging citizens to safeguard their deposits, Shafiqur Rahman urged vigilance to counter irregularities in the banking sector. He also questioned the government’s conflicting statements on the energy situation, citing discrepancies between official claims and the reality of power shortages and fuel procurement challenges affecting the public.

Shafiqur Rahman expressed discontent over the limited parliamentary debate time allocated to the opposition, claiming that the speaker’s neutrality pledge was not upheld in practice. He emphasized the importance of open discussions both within and outside parliament to address national issues effectively.

Calling for the implementation of referendum outcomes and transparent policy reforms, the opposition leader warned against disregarding public sentiment, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to tackle crises and prioritize national interests over party politics.
