Prime Minister Tarique Rahman disclosed an expenditure of Tk 23 lakh for the Dhaka‑17 constituency during the 13th National Parliamentary Elections held on February 12. The detailed breakdown revealed that Tk 5.5 lakh was allocated to campaign activities, Tk 1.1 lakh to transportation, Tk 1.8 lakh to rallies, and Tk 3.6 lakh to election camp operations. Additionally, payments to agents and staff totaled Tk 9.84 lakh, while accommodation and administrative costs amounted to Tk 66,000. Social media campaigning incurred expenses of Tk 50,000.
According to the Representation of the People Order (RPO) of 1972, candidates are permitted to spend up to Tk 25 lakh or Tk 10 per voter, whichever amount is higher. The law mandates the submission of election expenses to returning officers within 30 days of the official gazette of results.
In accordance with the Conduct of Election Rules from 2008, accounts must be submitted in specified forms along with affidavits, and copies must be forwarded to the Election Commission via registered post.
