“Prof Yunus Urges Parties: Ensure Peaceful Elections”

Date:

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has urged all political parties to ensure their leaders and activists refrain from engaging in disorder, violence, intimidation, or any actions that could influence voters during the election process. In a televised national address, Prof Yunus emphasized that any attempts to disrupt voting, take over polling centers forcibly, or incite unrest would not be tolerated by the state.

He also cautioned against the dissemination of misinformation, particularly on social media platforms, noting that rumors and fabricated content could erode public trust and contribute to instability. Prof Yunus reiterated the government’s commitment to facilitating a peaceful, credible, and participatory electoral environment, calling on political entities to exhibit responsibility and self-restraint.

Addressing concerns about the interim government’s intentions post-election, Prof Yunus dismissed claims that power would not be transferred to the elected representatives promptly, labeling such assertions as baseless propaganda. He stressed the collective responsibility of maintaining order during the polls and urged parties to create a secure atmosphere for voters to cast their ballots freely.

Describing the upcoming election as a historic moment for Bangladesh, Prof Yunus highlighted the critical role of the electorate in shaping the country’s future. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by individuals, especially those involved in past movements, in paving the way for democratic processes like elections and referendums.

While commending the relatively peaceful campaign environment leading up to the polls, Prof Yunus expressed regret over violent incidents that occurred during the election season, emphasizing that loss of life in a democratic setting is unacceptable. He noted that a record number of parties and candidates are participating in the election, making it one of the most competitive in Bangladesh’s history.

Encouraging candidates to prioritize national interests over personal or party gains, Prof Yunus emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration post-election to build a just and inclusive society. He underlined the significant role of women in shaping the nation’s history and economy, urging them to seize the opportunity to contribute to state decisions through the electoral process.

In a message to young voters, Prof Yunus encouraged them to exercise their political voice courageously by participating in the election. He highlighted the government’s efforts to ensure a neutral, fair, and secure electoral process, including the deployment of law enforcement personnel and the use of advanced surveillance technologies.

Regarding the referendum, Prof Yunus underscored the long-term implications of every vote on governance, justice, education, and employment policies. He concluded by calling on citizens to embrace polling day as a celebration of democracy and to exercise their voting rights to shape a new future for Bangladesh.
