The Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam will request a delay in the verdict announcement at the International Crimes Tribunal‑1 (ICT‑1) regarding a case involving crimes against humanity, including the killing of two individuals and injuring of two others in Rampura, Dhaka, during the July Uprising. The tribunal, comprising three members, had scheduled the verdict delivery for the next day in a case involving five former police officers, among them the former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Habibur Rahman.
Aminul Islam mentioned that the prosecution intends to file a petition for postponement due to identified shortcomings that they aim to address. The accused individuals include former DMP (Khilgaon Zone) ADC Rashedul Islam, former Rampura Police Station OC Mashiur Rahman, former SI Tarikul Islam Bhuiyan, and former ASI Chanchal Chandra Sarkar of Rampura outpost. Chanchal is the only one in custody, while the others are currently evading authorities.
The tribunal had initially set March 4, 2026, as the date for the verdict after the conclusion of arguments from both sides on February 15. The prosecution’s account alleges that on July 19, 2024, a six-year-old named Musa sustained critical injuries during police operations in Rampura, leading to the unfortunate death of his grandmother, Maya Begum, from the same bullet. Additionally, Md Nadim was fatally shot during the incident. Another disturbing event captured in a widely circulated video showed 18-year-old Amir Hossain being shot at close range by police while clinging to a building ledge on the same day.
Formal charges were filed on August 7, 2024, with the framing of charges occurring on September 17. The trial commenced on October 16 with the prosecution presenting its opening statement.
