Delhi Capitals staged a remarkable comeback after a shaky start, with Sameer Rizvi’s unbeaten half-century guiding them to a convincing six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in the latest IPL match. Lungi Ngidi’s superb bowling performance, claiming three wickets, restricted Lucknow to 141 runs, a total that Delhi comfortably chased down with 17 balls to spare.
Facing a precarious situation at 26-4, Rizvi, along with Tristan Stubbs (39 not out), formed an unbeaten partnership of 119 runs to steer Delhi to victory. Stubbs praised Rizvi’s aggressive approach against spin bowling, which made his own batting easier. Rizvi’s impressive innings of 70 not out, featuring five fours and four sixes, was instrumental in Delhi’s successful chase.
Lucknow’s bowling attack, led by Mohammed Shami and Prince Yadav, initially posed a challenge for Delhi, but Rizvi and Stubbs gradually took control as the target approached. Rizvi, named the player of the match, reached his fifty with a boundary off Aiden Markram before sealing the win with a six.
Despite the loss, Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant commended his team’s fighting spirit and positive start in the bowling department. Pant’s early dismissal, along with regular wickets falling, hampered Lucknow’s batting effort. Ngidi’s clever slower delivery accounted for Nicholas Pooran, while Abdul Samad’s brisk 36 off 25 balls provided a late boost to Lucknow’s total.
In the end, Delhi’s balanced performance, led by Rizvi’s heroics, secured a well-deserved victory as they continue their campaign in the IPL.
