“Snap Unveils SPECS AR Glasses at Augmented World Expo 2026”

Date:

Snap has debuted a fresh set of independent augmented reality (AR) glasses at the Augmented World Expo 2026 on June 16, priced at $2,195. The new product, named SPECS, is set to kick off shipments this fall in the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. Interested customers can secure their order by placing a pre-order with a $200 deposit that is fully refundable.

These glasses have been crafted to function autonomously without the need for a connected smartphone, external battery pack, or computing unit. Snap has mentioned that the device will be available in two different sizes and weighs between 132 and 136 grams, making it one of the lighter AR headsets in the current market.

Snap has revealed that the glasses boast a display system utilizing liquid crystal on silicon technology, offering a 51-degree field of view and supporting a spectrum of up to 16 million colors. Additionally, the glasses feature electrochromic lenses that can seamlessly switch between clear and tinted modes. Snap has positioned this device as a versatile platform for various AR applications such as navigation, productivity tools, educational software, and AI-powered assistance.

The company has reported that developers have already produced numerous applications, known as Lenses, for this platform. Powered by two Snapdragon processors, one dedicated to computer vision tasks and the other managing applications, the glasses are equipped to deliver low-latency interactions and real-time hand tracking for an immersive AR experience.

Snap has confirmed that the glasses offer up to four hours of mixed-use battery life, with an accompanying charging case providing additional power to extend total usage to approximately 20 hours. Snap has emphasized its long-standing investment in AR technologies, with over 7,000 patents filed specifically for the development of this new device. The SPECS come equipped with privacy controls that mandate user permission before accessing sensitive information, and they feature an indicator light to signify when recording is in progress.
