The government has announced that sports will become a mandatory subject starting from Class 4, having the same importance as core subjects such as Bangla and English, revealed State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque during a parliamentary session today.
In response to a query from Chattogram-16 MP Mohammad Zahirul Islam, the minister disclosed that the implementation of this initiative will kick off in the upcoming academic year, aligning with the prime minister’s election promise.
“It will commence with seven disciplines, and additional ones will be introduced gradually,” he stated.
Students will undergo assessments that encompass both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, with active participation in sports activities playing a crucial role in the evaluation process.
Haque emphasized the aim of steering children away from excessive reliance on digital devices and towards a more active lifestyle through this initiative.
Furthermore, he highlighted that the program aims to engage young individuals in organized sports activities to contribute to the establishment of a drug-free society.
Regarding infrastructure development, the state minister mentioned plans to establish playgrounds in all 495 upazilas, following the prime minister’s instructions to ensure the effective nationwide implementation of the initiative.
