“Sri Lanka Names Kusal Mendis Skipper for West Indies Tour”

Date:

Sri Lanka’s cricket selection committee announced Kusal Mendis as the new skipper for both the one-day international and T20 teams for the upcoming tour of the West Indies. Dhananjaya de Silva will continue as the Test captain, with Kamindu Mendis named as the vice-captain for all three formats.

The Sri Lankan squad is set to depart for the West Indies on Tuesday, marking their first visit in half a decade. The tour itinerary includes two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is as confirmed by the cricket board.

In a notable move, selectors added two debutants – 26-year-old Pasindu Sooriyabandara and 29-year-old Isitha Wijesundara – in the 17-member Test squad.

The tour will kick off with the first ODI scheduled for June 3, followed by matches on June 6 and 8 at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. The first Test is slated to commence on June 25, with the second Test starting on July 3, both to be held at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

The T20 series is set to take place between June 11 and 14. Sri Lanka previously drew the Test series but lost all three ODIs during their last West Indies tour in 2021.

The Test squad includes Dhananjaya de Silva as captain, Kamindu Mendis as vice-captain, and a lineup comprising talented players such as Pathum Nissanka, Lahiru Udara, and others.

For the ODI squad, Kusal Mendis will lead as captain, supported by vice-captain Kamindu Mendis, with a mix of promising talents like Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera.

In the T20 squad, Kusal Mendis will captain the team, with Kamindu Mendis as vice-captain, and an exciting lineup featuring players like Dasun Shanaka and Wanindu Hasaranga.
