Sri Lankan cricketer Dasun Shanaka, who exited the Pakistan Super League this year and later signed up with Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, has been prohibited from participating in the next PSL season, as per the Pakistan Cricket Board’s announcement on Monday.
Shanaka becomes the most recent international player to face consequences for switching from the PSL to the Indian league, following Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani who received a two-year ban earlier this month.
In an official statement, the Pakistan Cricket Board revealed that the 34-year-old Shanaka, who led the Sri Lankan team in the recent Twenty20 World Cup, chose to withdraw from the PSL without adhering to the contractual terms.
Acknowledging the decision, Shanaka expressed remorse for his actions and clarified that he had no intentions of pursuing any other tournament when he exited the PSL. He further stated his hopes of making a comeback to the PSL in the future, earning back the trust of the fans. Despite being part of Rajasthan Royals, Shanaka is yet to make an appearance for the team this season.
