In a surprising turn of events, the vampire tale “Sinners,” which pays homage to blues music and Black culture in the era of U.S. Southern segregation, gained momentum by winning at the Actor Awards this month. The film leads the pack with an unprecedented 16 nominations in the Oscars’ nearly century-long history.
Jessie Buckley is widely expected to clinch the best actress award for her portrayal of Agnes Hathaway, the wife of William Shakespeare, navigating the loss of their 11-year-old son in “Hamnet.” However, industry insiders note that the other top categories lack a clear frontrunner.
According to Hollywood awards experts, the competition for best actor is intense, with Michael B Jordan being a strong contender for his performance as twin brothers in “Sinners.” The category also includes past winner DiCaprio, Timothee Chalamet from “Marty Supreme,” and Brazilian actor Wagner Moura in “The Secret Agent.”
The battle for best supporting actor is equally uncertain, with contenders such as Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro from “One Battle” and Stellan Skarsgard from “Sentimental Value.”
