BNP leader Tarique Rahman has accused Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman of spreading false information for political gain by claiming that his Twitter account was hacked. Tarique dismissed these claims, stating that experts have confirmed that it is not possible for such an account to be compromised in the manner described.
Speaking at a rally in Khulna city’s Prabhati School ground, Tarique criticized Jamaat, calling them habitual liars. He mentioned that recent controversial remarks made from the account in question received strong backlash, especially from women. Despite Jamaat’s assertion that the account was hacked, Tarique emphasized that experts have refuted this claim.
Tarique also accused a senior leader of another political party of deceiving the public before the upcoming election. He condemned the practice of spreading misinformation for personal and political benefits, stating that those who engage in such behavior do not have the best interests of the country at heart.
The controversy arose after offensive comments directed at women were allegedly posted from Shafiqur’s verified account, prompting widespread criticism. Jamaat lodged a complaint at Hatirjheel Police Station, attributing the incident to a ‘special group’ hacking the account.
Tarique, who made his first visit to Khulna in 22 years, highlighted the importance of respecting women in politics. He called out parties that demean women, stating that they cannot ensure the safety and well-being of the nation. Tarique urged the women of Bangladesh to consider how they are treated by political leaders and emphasized the need for dignity and respect in public discourse.
Addressing Jamaat’s female activists, Tarique questioned their allegiance to a party that diminishes women’s roles and values. He warned against supporting parties that seek to marginalize women and emphasized the significance of gender equality in governance.
Tarique criticized the opportunistic use of religion by certain political parties and stressed the importance of upholding the rights and dignity of all citizens. He cited historical examples, including the entrepreneurial endeavors of Prophet Muhammad’s wife Khadija, to underscore the importance of respecting and empowering women in society.
The rally in Khulna witnessed a large turnout of BNP supporters from various districts, creating a vibrant atmosphere with colorful banners, party flags, and enthusiastic slogans.
