Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has opted to utilize his personal vehicle rather than the government-provided one, as confirmed by BNP media cell member Atikur Rahman Rumon today. Rumon stated that the prime minister will now use his own vehicle, driver, and personally procured fuel for transportation.
Tarique is refraining from using the official government vehicle designated for the prime minister. Recently, he traveled to Savar, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, and the Secretariat using his personal vehicle. Rumon mentioned that the prime minister has directed for a reduction in the size of his motorcade due to traffic congestion. Previously comprising 13-14 vehicles, the motorcade has now been scaled down to four.
Additionally, Tarique’s vehicle does not display a flag during regular use; however, the national flag will be displayed during state events or visits by foreign dignitaries. The prime minister has taken the decision to conduct cabinet meetings at the Secretariat moving forward to minimize traffic disruptions caused by ministers commuting to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Rumon further noted that the prime minister has instructed authorities to discontinue the practice of deploying uniformed police along the roadsides during his movements in Dhaka.
